Although a temperature that high hasn’t been recorded in over 80 years, you never know when the summer heat will break its record. Here’s more about Florida’s high temperatures and how they compare to the rest of the country:

Highest Temperature in Florida

The highest temperature ever recorded in Florida was 109 degrees. This temperature was measured on June 29, 1931, in Monticello, which lays Northeast of Tallahassee, just under the Georgia border.

While 109 degrees may sound gravely hot, it would feel like an oasis next to the world’s hottest day on record. In 1913, temperatures in California’s Death Valley reportedly reached 134 degrees! That is literally hot enough to fry an egg!

How Florida Heat Compares to Other States

Out of the 12 major U.S. cities with the highest average daily temperatures, four are located in Florida. Miami takes the top spot, followed by Tampa in third place, Orlando in fourth and Jacksonville in tenth.

The average annual temperature in Pinellas County is 72.8 degrees, which is one degree higher than the state average and about 18 degrees higher than the national average. Locally, Clearwater’s highest recorded temperature is 98 degrees and St. Petersburg’s record high is 100 degrees. Generally, highs do not surpass 95 degrees throughout the county.
